Thanks for your help but my warranty finished like 3 yers ago, have you got any idea how much it would cost me to replace the hard drive? or to get someone to replace it for me? and if i can get my data back or it has all been erased?

and also, you have any idea what caused this?

Thanks

@Rojin:

I put my hard drive into an externaal hard drive case and all of my data was still there. It has all now been recovered, ask at any computer shop and they should be able to do it for you.

Also, being in the UK. a new Hard Drive cost me £40 including installation.

That was for a 320gig.

HP charge something like £60/70, but then you need to get an operating system too if you don't have your origional one still.

@Daniel_Potyrala;

I'd ike to apologise, I was wrong, after reinstaling an OS, my computer worked for a few days and then came up with the same message.

I have now replaced the Hard Drive as you advised and this is the first time using it since doing so, and will keep updated on how it goes.

I've also clicked Kudos to say thanks.

Don't suppose you know anything about the Cooling Fan Error 90B?

Thanks

Hi,

It's not a problem. Quite often users do not agree with my opinion in this thread.

FanFan not operating correctly90BThe system fan may be malfunctioning.

For information on troubleshooting heat-related issues, see Fan Runs Constantly, the PC Operates Slower than Expected and Generates Heat.

It is also recommended that you perform a hard reset as that can sometimes restore the system fan to working order. See Use Hard Reset to Resolve Hardware and Software Issues for details.

If the system fan continues to malfunction, contact HP support.

Hi again,

Try to mount your old hard drive into an 2.5" SATA External Enclosure (check here) and connect it to another machine through USB or eSATA. This should allow you to access data.

The price of new hard drives you may check for example here.

I always recommend 7200 RPM HDD's because they give a lot more better performance then 5400 RPM. Capacity depends on your needs, but you need to know that the service documentation shows 500 GB HDD as the highest capacity drive. This means that this is the limit where you may be sure that the hard drive will be detected for sure. HDD with higher capacity may not be detected.

The inormation how to replace the hard drive you will find in the service documentation here on the page 41 or 49 (depends on how you checked the page number in this document).

Hi again,

The hard drive can be purchased at many places.

What type of hard drive do you need? SATA 2 (other terms for it: SATA II or SATA 3.0Gb/s).

Another important parameter is the size of the disk: 2.5"

The price of new hard drives you may check for example here.

For sure you will need a set of recovery discs to reinstall the system. Contact with HP and ask them about it (you will have to pay a small fee for these discs).
