Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I contacted your forum a couple of weeks ago regarding the screen that when I lift the lid the screen goes black, I then have to close down the lid 3 or 4 times to get the laptop to work,  I was given instructions on what to do, but this has started recurring again, obviously the machine at nearly two years old is useless,  what can I do to try and get the darn laptop to work each time I want to use it, without rebooting 3 or 4 times.

Thank you - Elaine

Hi! @Elaine24, Welcome to HP forums.

I understand when you lift the lid of your laptop the screen goes blank.

Don't worry I will try to help you out.

Did you make any software or hardware changes on your laptop?

Please provide the product number of your PC to assist your better.

Please try few steps recommended below.

- Start by changing some power options.
- Right-click on the battery icon and select Power Options.
- Once open click on Change plan settings then Change advanced power settings.
- Expand Hard disk and set Turn off hard disk after to Never.
- Expand Sleep and set Allow hybrid sleep to OFF then set Hibernate after to Never.
- Click Apply then OK.

Next is to change settings in Device Manager.
- In Device Manager expand System devices, right click on ACPI lid and select Properties.
- Click on Power Management tab and put a check on Allow this device to wake the computer.
- Test whether if it will work or not after doing all these changes.

Also, try uninstalling and reinstalling graphics drivers using HP support assistant.

Refer this article to know how to use HP support assistant.

If the issue still persists it is a hardware issue, please contact HP support for service options.

I have followed the instructions as best as I can set by Mr Robot but there is no power management tab to access, so I have not bothered, incidentally, I also have a problem with the keyboard, I can be typing away when suddenly the cursor moves to another line and I am typing in the middle of a previous sentence or paragraph, I was told that it was because I type properly and not with two fingers,  is this correct,  if so, keyboards should be set so that typists can use them without having to keep stopping to shift the cursor back and delete words and sentences set in the middle of another line.

I still do not think the HP laptop I have is a very good one,

@Elaine24, I was wondering for your reply. Thanks for getting back us.

As you mentioned you don't see the power management tab on your PC.

I had requested for the product number in my previous thread can you please share the product number of your PC to assist you better.

Have you changed the setting in power options to Expand Hard disk and set Turn off hard disk after to Never?

Also, Try restoring the BIOS to defaults and check if it helps.

To restore BIOS turn on your PC keep tapping the F10 key you will boot into BIOS.

From the main or file menu, select restore defaults from the drop down, select yes to confirm.

Press F10 to save changes and exit.

Let me know how it goes!

Cheers! 🙂

Thank you for your answer and possible solution, but I am not confident in ''mucking'' about with the computer, having recently ''lost'' a lot of stored e-mails,  photo's and some music, and I do not know how to get them back without paying out a lot of money for someone to do this for me,  so I will leave things as they are and everytime the screen goes blank I will go away and do something else. thank you
