Microsoft Windows 8.1 (64-bit)

My HP 455 notebook PC has a battery life of 45 minutes.

From a full 100% charge, my laptop shuts down from a dead battery in only 45 minutes.

(Interestingly, when I restart the laptop, it shows 50- 60% battery life)

Is there anything I can do to restore my battery´s life, or do I need to replace it?

I believe there are some dead cells in the battery which are not working and thats why you are not able to charge over 91%. We have to leave it the way it is or we need to replace the battery itself

Please perform below shown steps to resolve the issue:

Step 01. Click on the Start Button

Step 02. Type "Device Manager" in the start search box & open the Device Manager

Step 03. Look for Batteries and expand it by click on the + symbol on the left

Step 04. Right Click on "Microsoft ACPI Compliant Control Method Battery" & uninstall

Note: This Battery driver will get re-installed automatically when you restart the Notebook again

Step 05. Please Shutdown the Notebook

Step 06. Please remove the Battery and unplug the Power Adapter

Step 07. Press and Hold the Power Button for full 1 Minute

Step 08. Go ahead and put back the Battery and connect the Power Adapter

Step 09. Look for "Plugged In Charging" message on the Battery icon

After performing all the steps if you are facing the same issue still, please perform three more steps:

1. Run a Battery Check in HP Support Assistant[Install the Software if it's not available]

Note: Replace the Battery If Health Check Status shows Replace

2. Update the latest BIOS for your Notebook from HP Support Site

3. Please check your Notebook with a known good Power Adapter & Battery from a different Notebook

Note: If a known good battery is also not charging we need to replace the system board

How to improve the life of a Battery:
1. It is not advisable to use the Notebook when the Power Adapter is connected

2. It is not advisable to keep the Power Adapter plugged in even after the Battery is fully charged

3. You need to let the battery drain completely before charging again

4. Power Plan should be set correctly for extended battery life

5. Please keep the Screen Brightness at lower level

6. Please turn OFF Wi-Fi Connection when not in use

7. Please remove the CD/DVD's from the Optical Drive when not in use

My battery icon shows 91% and NOT CHARGING - I can´t get my charge over 91% no matter how long I keep the laptop plugged in. So I´m stuck at 91% .

The computer battery diagnostic says the battery is ok but needs calibration.

But calibration instructions require charging the battery to 100%.

How can I calibrate if I can´t get a charge over 91%?

thanks very much for the feedback

charging is intermittent when I plug in

it charges for a few seconds, then stops, then charges for a few seconds, then stops

surprisingly, when I started the computer today, it indicated 3 hours of battery life

I´ll be curious to see if that´s true - 3 hours would be a huge improvement

Now I have replaced my battery with a new one. HP diagnostics indicated the battery needed to be replaced.

1. What is the best way to charge / discharge and use the new battery to maximize battery life and maximize the time I can

use my laptop without plugging in?

2. Once the battery indicator show a 100% charge, will any harm come to the battery if I keep the laptop plugged in?

Can it be "overcharged" or damaged if I use AC power and keep the latop plugged in for hours at home or work, even

with a 100% charge showing on my battery indicator?

Thanks
