i have a dv7 (dv3085dx) and i just had to buy a new ac adapter. i bought an official hp 90w max power smart adapter but when i plug it in i keep getting an error message;
'smart ac adapter output power is too low for this pc'.
i tried taking the battery out an holding the power button for 60seconds and i tried uninstalling the power management and i also updated and made sure my bios was at default.
i really need my laptop workingfor school and i don't know what else to do. the hp adapter was $70 and i really think it should work with the computers it says it will on the box.
any help would be appreciated.
thanks,
Sean

Hi,
I would send it back and ask for a replacement. Have you checked the wattage on both (old and new) ?

Hi,
I copy this from other forum (I'm on that forum too). Hope this help:
This is not a problem with your AC adapter. It's a problem with the HP software. I have exactly the same problem with my HP G60 laptop. I discussed in a chat with HP online tech support some months ago, and here the possible fixes provided by the tech support person.
The first one in the list will get rid of the very annoying pop-up, but only until the next time you re-start the computer, at which point the pop-up returns, and you have to repeat the get-rid-of-it steps. Number 4 on the list (the "MS config" method) is no good, as the pop-up does not appear in the services list. I have not tried any of the others.
Given the number of complaints about this - and the money people are throwing away on new AC adapters, you'd think HP would have a permanent fix by now. Anyway - here's the list I got from HP:
Troubleshooting step 1:Hard reset
=========
1. Press and Hold power button till the laptop turns off(5-7 sec approx).
2. Then unplug the AC adaptor.
3. Turn the laptop upside down.
4. Then remove battery.
5. Then press and hold the power button for 60 seconds(to remove static electricity).
6. Then plug in AC adaptor and turn on the laptop.
7. Then shut down the laptop and plug in the battery.
==========
Troubleshooting step 2:BIOS default
===========
1. Turn off the laptop.
2. Then while turning on the laptop keep taping F10 key.
3. Then press F9 key. In the pop up window select 'YES' and
hit enter(Do you want to load default settings).
4. Then press F10 key. In the pop up window select 'YES' and hit enter
5. System restarts.
Troubleshooting step 3: Power management reinstallation
=========
1. Click on Start button.
2. Choose Start Search field.
3. Type Device manager and press Enter key. This will open device manager window.
4. Click the plus (+) sign next to System Devices.
5. Right-click the ACPI Fixed Features button and select Uninstall.
6. Restart the system.( power management is automatically reinstalled once the notebook restarts)
=========
Troubleshooting step 4:MSconfig
Click Start and type” msconfig” without quotes in start search and hit enter.
Now click on “services “ tab and check Hide all the Microsoft services and check for AC adapter related pop up if so select it and click on Disable .
Now click on “Start up” tab and check for AC adapter related pop up if so select it and click on Disable and click Apply and Ok.
Do not restart the notebook.
HP tech support also suggested BIOS update might help, and provided the following step-by-step instructions. You'd have to search for any update for your particular model, I guess...
BIOS update....
Please make sure to unplug any external devices like flash drive or USB keyboard or USB mouse while installing BIOS update
No, you need not back up any information on the notebook hard drive before performing BIOS update.

I have the same problem with my newly purchased Envy notebook. I ordered an extra power adapter to use for my desktop configuration. I selected the one recommended by HP!!
Now, the message appears not only on start up, but whenever it comes out of a locked state because I didn't use it for 10 minutes (that's my timeout value).
What can we do? This is crazy!!
