Hello everyone,

Was wondering if I could get some assistance finding my software build number.

HP Probook 6540b, running Windows 7 64 bit.

The ctrl+alt+s and fn+esc shortcuts do not do anything. I tried the Windows key+R shortcut as well, and I got the Windows build number, but what I need is the HP software build ID number. [Too easy to confuse the two...] I keep reading it should be printed on a sticker somewhere, or inside the battery compartment, but I can't seem to find an example of this number anywhere online, so I'm not 100% sure what exactly to look for. [Is it labeled, by chance?]

If anyone can help me out with this, I'd appreciate it!

Ok, I've done some more research and reading and I'm pretty sure this is a feature that has only been included on the HP desktops, and not the notebooks. Sorry for the wild goose chase, everyone! Thanks for all your help!

I belive the Software build number which you are reffering to is the product key for windows, if thats the case please check the link  and you will find product key : xxxxx-xxxxx-xxxxx-xxxxx. That is the software build id which. Yes you are right you might find this lable at the bottom of the notebook or in the battery compartment.

Hi satishp4, thanks for the reply!

I don't think the product key is what I'm looking for. I found the correct sticker on the bottom of a [consumer] Windows 7 TouchSmart and am attaching a picture of it here.

Try booting into BIOS setup (F10) . Go to File -> System Information and see if the information you are looking for is present there.
It should have System ID and System Configuration ID.

The picture which you have attached does have the build ID which you have highlighted and could also check in Bios to get the system build ID.

Hi tech47,

I was finally able to test out your BIOS idea, but didn't see the info I need.  : /  It had the System Board ID, but that's the only thing that looked even similar to what you listed. [Also, there is no "File" listed along the top, there's only "Main," "Security," "Diagnostics," "System Configuration," and "Exit." I was looking in the "Main" tab, which listed the product number, info about the BIOS, the serial number, stuff like that. So I'm guessing it's pretty much the same thing you were talking about with the "File" tab.]
Any more ideas?

Satishp4, I realize the picture I attached has the information I was looking for, but it's from a different computer. As I said, I took that picture of a sticker I found on a consumer Windows 7 TouchSmart, but I need to be able to find this same information on a commercial Windows 7 ProBook. I attached the picture so that we would all have a reference of what the number looks like, how it's labeled, etc.
