Happy news! Back in October, the HP support folks reached out to me via this forum and helped me get the laptop up and running again despite being out of warranty. This is the reason I will always be a loyal HP laptop customer! Their products are beautiful, and they stand behind them

They ran some tests and found errors in the motherboard, battery, and oddly the CPU fan. So they just replaced all of them.
Could have been the motherboard, could have been the battery. We will never know since it was all replaced at once.
