Hi,
The wireless but on my HP Compaq 6730b is orange and will not turn blue despite my hardest efforts. I already tried doing a hard reset but everytime i start the computer back up it says i have to do a disk check and so i do and it just stops at "193048 security descriptors processed." and nothing happens. Can i please get some ideas on what i can do to fix this?
Thank You.

Hi
You have a couple of options as I see it please try these steps might help you to fix your issue.
1) Disconnect the Battery & Adapter then press & hold the power button on Notebook for 30 seconds then turn on the unit and check if the Wireless light turns on.
2) Go to Device manager then uninstall the wireless drivers from Network Adapter and restart the unit and check if the light turns on.
3) Please update the Bios & Wireless driver from HP website.
4) Click start in search type Recovery Manager then click on it select Yes on User access control then select I need immediate help then select Driver & application recovery select the wireless driver and install it then restart the unit.
5) If you are comfortable reseating the wireless card which will be on the back panel off your unit you could try this steps as well.
If still you have the same issue then you need to call HP Technical support and get the part replaced.

For others who emcounter this page, I ran into the same problem where the wireless button will not toggle between orange and blue.
What fixed the issue was downloading and running the HP Wireless Assistant. It can be downloaded from the drivers support page. Within it you can toggle the wireless button programatically and apparently it resets something, as after one use I can now toggle the wireless button normally (manually).
I actually downloaded the HP Wireless Assistant for a later model HP laptop and it worked fine. But you might want to download it from the 6730b drivers and support page.
Appended is a link to a comprehensive reply on this topic. I skipped to the bottom of the page and downloaded the HP Wireless Assistant from the link first and it worked.

I had this problem with three notebooks that I freshly redeployed with a clean Windows 7 x64 (6730b and 2530p notebooks). The button above the keyboard would remain oraange and tapping it made no difference. All other button worked fine.
I had tried looking at the BIOS settings, installed various different drivers, etc. None of that helped. As suggested in one of the posting I installed the "HP Wireless Asssitant"... that was the magic fix for me. After a reboot, I could go into the Wireless Assistant and turn on the wireless adapter. Once turned on, the "button" above the keyboard turned Blue. I could now toggle it on and off by touching the button. Somehow either a BIOS, HP driver, or Windows update caused the "button" to lock. Once the wireless assistant turned on the wireless adapter this feature started working again.

You can fix it by using this method:
1. Open Device Manager >> Uninstall Wireless card's driver.
2. Turn off then turn on your Computer.
3. Click F10 to access BIOS setup >> Reset BIOS to default config >> F10 to save BIOS and restart Computer.
4. Install the latest driver of Wireless card.
5. Done!
