I battled this issue all morning. I tried everything everyone here was listing, but if you watch it boot, even the bios was not seeing the mouse. That lead me to this fix. At least I hope this is a lasting fix.
Look on YouTube on how to remove the keyboard. Very easy. Only two screw under the back cover and a push point and it comes out. In fact there are little keyboard images next to the keyboard screws and there is also an image of a keyboard by the punch hole. Once the keyboard is off, you will see the fat ribbon cable for the keyboard and below it running perpendicular you will see the touchpad connection ribbon. Mine has a blue pull tab on it and is much smaller than the keyboard ribbon. Carefully open the ribbon lock tab and the remove the ribbon. I cleaned my connection and then put it back and it immediately worked. Been running test and it seems to be okay for now.
