You might try uninstalling the device in the Device manager.

Windows 8 and 8.1 operating system have the Touchscreen driver in its DriverStore directory and should reinstall it if you right click a device afterwards and select scan for hardware changes.

Hi there, I too have started experiencing this fault (HP Pavilion Touchsmart Sleekbook 14-B141TU Windows 8.1 64). At first it was intermittent (would sort itself out) but more recently it has become more persistent.

From reading this forum (many thanks) I have found that if I uninstall the 'HID Compliant Touchscreen' (from device manager) and then reinstall using the 'scan for hardware changes' and then restart the computer, the touchscreen works again. Problem is, next time I shut down and then turn the computer on, its not working again.

Is there something in the shut down script that could be affecting the functionality of the touchscreen?

For some reason the HP support site does not list a touchscreen driver for the 14-b141TU model. The only two HID devices are the keyboard and the the touch pad. Is there an alternate model with the same touchscreen that I can download the driver to see if that fixes it?

Next stop is a system restore but I'd rather not have to do that.

The reason that you do not find a touchscreen driver is that it is provided by the operating system.

Check in the Device Manager.

Expand the section called Human Interface Devices and you should see one titled HID-Compliant Touch Screen.

That is the touchscreen device.

If you don't see it there then, right click any device and select scan for hardware changes. YOu can also try update device driver if the device is there but not working. The OS should reinstall the device.

The recovery media didin't work when I tried to use it.  So support sent me some recovery discs to restore it but they give an error message when you boot up the first disc.   What do you do when you can't use a restore image???

If I had a Windows 8 install disc with a key code and the drivers for the Sleekbook, I'd do a clean install and go the there but I don't have that option.
