right now, after I turn on my laptop (HP Pavilion dv9533eg, bought in Sept. 2007) the temperatur of the Chip is about 60 C.

when I have then my two browser on (Chrome and Firefox), the Temperature goes up to over 70 C, sometimes 76 C!!!

I am not using my laptop  in bed or so, its on my desk, even with a supporting stand for the laptop to be on, so all the air vents are free.

I have read so many sites with reports about both or either the chip or the graphic card failing on this HP series, I am really afraid it could happened to my laptop as well.

on the other hand, I have not encountered any BSOD or other problems with my laptop so far, and I Have read, that a BIOS flash update is always risky.

Even if there is a thin chance that anyone here has the exact model as I do, could anyone give me the advise if I should do this BIOS update , to prevent any potential future failing of my chip??

i have a hp dv5 1002 au with the same processor and i gotta say it makes for one big space heater. in hot weather ive seen it go to 100 degree c after running dragon age on full graphics. So here are some precautions you need to take

1) keep it on a desk, never keep it on a bed/matress or anything that blocks your air circulation. It is better if u keep it on some sort of stand or a cooling pad. i found that woth a cooling pad it never overheats so that is the best way to go.

2) download and install the hp driver updates for your motherboard. im sorry i dont have the link myself but i managed to find it via google.  The update will make your fan run a little faster and keep your laptop cooler

3)install a (free) temperature monitor software like Core Temp which is freely available and comes with a desktop gadget for windows vista and 7 so u can monitor ur temp in real time on your desktop.

4)make sure that your fan and heatsink is clean. On some hp laptops cleaning the heatsink can be a pain in the butt so its best you let a professional clean it out for you once or twice in a year

Most hp laptops and amd cpus automatically reduce core voltage when the temp rises too high so if your pc is overheating you will see a noticable reduction in performance.

Remember that amd cpus generally run a bit hotter then intels and the new hp laptops do have an ineffecient cooling system so overheating is to be expected. But wit a little bit of love and care it should not cause you any problems.

Just keep the above points in mind and you will be fine.

thanks sid_raptor for your lengthy reply!

and sorry for my belated answer!

I will pay attention to all the advice you gave, and will cross my fingers!

I hope, I will find those drivers you were talking about!

I dont think, for my model there are those mainboard drivers exist, that you are talking about.

I went to the HP drive and selected my computer dv 9533eg, and OS (vista 32 bit) , but it only shows me these available:

go at http://www8.hp.com/us/en/support-drivers.html and automatically find your product . choose OS and then you will be promted to all hardware updates. I have the same model 9533eg and upgraded all drivers and software which I needed.
