Sometimes for no reason at all my screen starts having horizontal multi-colored lines that keep running across the screen.  When I move the screen it finally goes away.  Sometimes it happens when I touch the screen too.

 

Why does this happen? How can I stop this from happening?  Is it damaging something?

Yeah, i have the same problem. And this time round the rainbow colors doesn't go after several efforts to let it. Please any one with how to solve this problem should help.

On mine, I could press on the edge of the screen near the line a few times and it would go away for a while.

Now I have 2, and I can only get 1 to disappear at a time.

 

My monitor is a month out of warranty, and HP say to buy a new one rather than repair.

Lets fill up the landfills!
