Have HP G72-b60us; came with i3-370, now with i5-480.  Will quad core i7-run in this HP motherboard 1439 ?     Running at 35 w now and i7 is 55w.  Socket PGA989 fits all above.

Hello benebyfoster,

I see that your wondering if this notebook can run an Intel core i7. I will look into this for you.

Looking at the Maintenance and Service guide for you notebook, you can upgrade to an i7, however not teh one listed.

Here is the one you can upgrade to:
Intel Arrandale i7–620M Processor (2.66 GHz, 4 MB total L3 cache, 1066 MHz)—Dual Core 35 W 587259–001.

I hope this answers your question.
Thank you for posting on the HP Forums.

You mean it won't accept a quad Core as a 640 is a 2 core.

Hi,

The only processors we can guarantee will work are listed in the maintenance and service guide, which I previously provided. You can try any processor you want, since the quadcore you mentioned could work. However, I cannot suggest that this is wise.
