I'm doing the calculation to find out the period, my HP12C Gold model C1GP330, responds with a value of 15, but the correct value is 14. When the calculation is performed on the virtual HP12C, the same calculation generates the answer 14!!!

How to solve this?

Pv= -78,000.00

Fv= 110,211.96

i = 2.5

N = ?

@Ge0rge86, Welcome to the HP Support Community.

If your physical HP 12c Gold returns 15 while the virtual HP 12c returns 14, the most likely cause is that the calculator still has previous financial data stored or is using a different setup/state.

STEP-by-STEP Troubleshooting

  1. Clear all financial registers
    Press f CLEAR G before starting the period calculation. The manual states this clears the financial registers.
  2. If needed, clear all stored data
    Press f CLEAR H to clear data storage registers, financial registers, stack, LAST X register, and display.
  3. Re-enter all values from the beginning
    Enter your interest rate, present value, payment, and future value again carefully before solving for n (number of periods).
  4. Check for leftover operating state
    The HP 12c stores data in memory until you clear it, so an old value can affect the result.
  5. Compare with the virtual calculator again
    After clearing and re-entering the data, run the same calculation on both calculators. They should now match.

Important Notes

  • The HP 12c keeps data in Continuous Memory until you reset or clear it.
  • HP documentation shows using f CLEAR G before a new financial calculation and f CLEAR H to clear broader stored data.
  • If the result still differs after clearing, I don’t know from the provided content whether your unit has a hardware issue or a model-specific behavior.

I hope this helps!

Take care and have an amazing day!

I'm an HP Employee.
