We seem to be having a few of these. "ghost jams" in the 2 tray paper pedestal. Sometimes even before the machine has been installed.
Seems there is a sensor that is sensitive to light (tray 3)
Anyone else having this issue?

Hi Bill, as you said that it sometimes happens even before the device has been installed, that makes me think of something going on with the cabinet's connector. To avoid bending it we recommend to first align the printer using the orage arrows in the stickers and then let it smoothly go down onto the cabinet, so the connector and it's place engage properly.
Maybe you want to check if there's any bent pin or something out of place?
I assume al the packaging material has also been removed.

If it's new guys or if we think the lifting help we have on hand is not experienced/strong enough to do it perfectly, we remove the back panel and remove the plug. When we set the engine on the base, we will plug it in, put in the screws and reattach the back cover. It saves pins and broken connectors.

Hi @BillBird we have seen eror with 2 machines. The error only occurs when light directly hits the machine. A short-term solution is to glue something in front of the gap in the machine. We have put many X4300s into the field in the past and have never had this error. I think it is the white plastic that reflects the light differently.

To start off it is nothing to do with the pedestal connection between the copier, that was ruled out quite early in the piece.
The issue is related to @GeorgT observations and is indeed related to the sensor being over sensitive to light.
We have been told by HP that the issue seems to be more prevalent in the Southern Hemisphere (we are in New Zealand) and is solved by replacing the updated sensor.
I find this a little strange really, hence my question as we have had over 15 machines with this issue.
