Merry Xmas all.

One of my engineers is trying to set up the following.

"the client wants everyone to print in B&W without restriction and only the pin dialogue popup when they print in colour. Is this possible?"  I don't currently have access to a FS4 EWS but would check in access control. I believe previously a work around was to set up 2 print queues, mono and colour. Can anyone advise if this can be done without the need of a second queue?

Thanks

I would think access to the EWS would be pretty essential.  It is really easy to set up in that control panel.

Do the end users have admin rights on their workstations?  One work around I found is using PCL and PS drivers and work it like picking two printers.  Make the mono your default "printer" and the color "printer" available from the pick-a-printer drop box.  The reason I asked if users had admin rights was so they can or cannot change it.  If they do have access to change the driver defaults, there will need to be a level of trust.

Bottom line in my opinion, is: Without access to the EWS it is all kind of a work around.

Hi. That's how I'm sure I've done it in the past, and how I've advised my engineer for now. Ill have a play with my machines when I return to work on the 2nd. Just wondered if anyone had found a better way. The customer previously had an old sharp , which it was possible to do .

Thanks

I meant that I don't have access to an HP EWS as I'm at home. If I did , I could have a play with Access control to see.

Thanks

Ah... Yea, I work from home as much as I am allowed.  Once you get into the EWS it will be easy.  You can even set up billing codes (whether they actually bill or not) just to see which department or personnel use color and how much.

I have set up serverless accounting set up with quotas etc following the guide on WISE but need to spend more time customising it .

Hi Andy,

Once our full team is back in the office we will be able to get you a complete answer.  In the mean time I believe you have found the document on Wise that details how to set up restricting color access -- that is the best method to allow color printing with PIN.

If you need further assistance when on site please feel free to call our Premier Partner support team.

I will update next week when I have a chance to talk with my level 3 team.

Further to this information (issue) request. I work for a multi brand vendor of which one of the brands we sell has a "Free Black" mode in (Department Code) Account Control setup. This is a simple and efficient way to set up user control without having to set two queues as the colour code can be "hard coded" into the driver and will not bother the user ever.

May I suggest this be investigated as a feature request for a future firmware update. I'm happy to supply vender information if required.
