a few weeks ago we bought the HP Officejet Pro 7740 printer - new and ovp.
With printouts from Word and Excel files, however, it always prints a black line on the left side of the page - only on the 1st page - with multi-page documents there is no line on the following pages 2 to... Format settings have already been checked - no sideline is specified.
PDF printouts, copies and JPEG files have been made time and time again including this line.

@ElektroB, Welcome to the HP Support Community! I’m here to help.
I see that the printer prints a black line only on the initial page. Let us try these steps to resolve this issue:
Update the printer firmware
Click here to download and install the latest printer firmware from your computer.
Click here to know different methods of updating printer firmware.
Clean the paper pick rollers as mentioned in this document - An 'Out of Paper' error displays, printer does not pick paper
If the issue persists, clean the printhead up to 2 times as shown in this document - Color or Black Ink is Not Printing
Print a test page to check the result.
If the issue persists,
- I've sent you a private message with further instructions to resolve this issue.
- In order to access your private messages, click the private message icon on the upper right corner of your HP community profile, next to your profile Name or simply click on this link: https://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/notes/privatenotespage

@ElektroB
This seems to be a hardware issue with the printer and has to be replaced. The steps for replacement are mentioned in the private message sent.
Kindly refer to the same.
Keep me posted for any other assistance.

Hi Kumar,
there a serveral posts with the same topic (e.g. https://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Printer-Setup-Software-Drivers/HPN-7740-black-line-after-printing/m-p/...). The lines appear some times and are clear, sharp and continually only on DIN A4-Format.
I don't agree this could be a hardware issue.
My firmare is up to date.
Greetings

Hi @PrinzyMut83,
Welcome to the HP Support Community
I'd like to help!
I understand you are facing print quality issue.
To assist better-
1) Does the copy print out the same way?
2) What's the application you are trying to print from? Have you tried printing from a different application or devices?
While you respond to that, let's print a Print Quality Diagnostic page -
Load plain white paper in the input tray.
On the printer control panel, swipe down to open the Dashboard, and then touch the Setup icon .
Swipe up on the display, touch Reports, and then touch Print Quality Report.
Post the Print Quality Diagnostic page here so we can help you further.
You may also refer to this document with steps to fix " Print Quality Issues" issue applicable for your printer - Print Quality Issues
Also, try updating the printer's firmware - HP Printers - Updating or Upgrading Printer Firmware
Hope this helps! Keep me posted.
Please click “Accept as Solution” if you feel my post solved your issue, it will help others find the solution.
Click the “Yes" on the bottom right to say “Thanks” for helping!

Hi @Jay_G24,
the lines occure random. There seems to be no clear pattern.
1) Does the copy print out the same way?
No. By using the copy function from printers display there are no black lines.
2) What's the application you are trying to print from? Have you tried printing from a different application or devices?
The error occurs often by using MS Word, MS Outlook, Adobe Acrobat DC, Mozilla Firefox, SumatraPDF. I tried to print from 2 different devices (both with Windows 10).
Also, try updating the printer's firmware - HP Printers - Updating or Upgrading Printer Firmware
Firmware is up to date.
