I installed a new ink cartridge in my OfficePro 8710 printer and am getting a message stating the cartridge is of an older version and the printer will not print. I see other have had the same problem. This is a genuine HP ink cartridge and I see "Warranty ends: 2020/07" on the cartridge. I bought a dual pack cartridge some time ago so I would have a spare. My understanding is a firmware upgrade took place causing this issue when I went to change out the cartridge. How do I downgrade the printer software? Or is there another fix?

I am also having an issue with HP652 cartridges that I installed and I am getting a message that they are outdated. I believe that I purchased these cartridges from a large retailer within the past few months. I was not aware that HP made firmware changes to the printers and I wonder if there are any legality issues with these changes. How can the retailers sell older inventory and customers are not informed of these firmware changes that HP made? Also, just because there is no longer a warranty on the cartridge should not make them obsolete for use. These printer cartridges are overpriced as it is and now we are running into this issue.  Is there a way to revert back to an older software version for our printer, as this issue didn’t exist previously?

So I looked into my issue further. I never noticed the expiration dates on the printer cartridges prior, but my cartridges are outdated. I must have replaced my cartridges a few months ago with newer cartridges that I purchased and not noticed that I had older cartridges. It looks like the configuration of the HP952 cartridge changed since 2020 and that is why the printer is saying  they are an older version and it is not related to the expiration date.
