Hi

I have an HP Deskjet 3637, and am trying to print using ONLY black ink in grayscale. I've attempted printing through multiple applications with grayscale selected. The prints appear like they are a rich grayscale I assume because it is pulling in some degree of color, but I really just need the printer to pull from the black ink cartridge. I'm working on a larger project (166 pages) and with the settings at grayscale, and "draft" for quality I've used up two full-color cartridges

I've been looking for the answer through the forums and tried troubleshooting through the virtual assistant, but I haven't found anything helpful that is specific to a MAC and a black ink only setting or being able to specify that grayscale should only use black.

In most case the print dialog on MAC looks like what is below, however, the instructions break down from HP when you get to "

  1. under Paper Type/Quality, click Color Options, and then select Grayscale"

This does not exist from what I can tell.

Can someone tell me how I might go about setting grayscale to print using only black ink for MAC? It seems there is definitely a way but how to do it is very unclear.

Hi,

Please follow below version of HP Easy Start, as soon as it launches open the top HP Easy Start menu and select Uninstall HP Software.

Follow the steps on screen and then click on Set Up New Device and follow the steps to reinstall the printer:

https://ftp.hp.com/pub/softlib/software12/HP_Quick_Start/osx/Applications/HP_Easy_Start.app.zip

As soon as HP Easy start prompts to install HP Smart, close HP Easy Start and press the Skip to Software Download button, then follow the steps on screen to complete the installation and check for any difference.

Once installing an HP Driver you should see the option to print in Grayscale or with Black Ink only, using AirPrint which is the currently used driver provide less control capabilities.

I think that did it. I realized you need to restart the applications too, but seems like it is doing the trick!

Thank you!!
