There is no inventory for cartridge 206 (verified Office Max, Amazon, etc; purchased NON HP cartridges and the printer blocked the cartridges..... WHY!!!!!  Have any of the HP guru's been blocked by Toyota/Honda/GM etc for not using geniune parts??  Im willing to sign a waiver on printing quality... it is extremely frustrating as it is enfuriating the fact that my $450 printer is still controlled by HP... this is extremely upsetting

Hi @drdanny1,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If you are experiencing an error message on your HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP M283cdw printer that states "Cartridge blocked - Non-HP chip," it means that your printer is not recognizing the cartridge as a genuine HP product. This can happen if you are using a third-party or refilled cartridge that does not have an HP chip.

To resolve this issue, you can try the following steps.

  • Remove the cartridge and reinsert it. Make sure that it is properly seated in the printer.
  • If the error message persists, try turning off the printer and unplugging it from the power source for a few minutes. Then plug it back in and turn it on.
  • If the error message still appears, you may need to replace the non-HP cartridge with a genuine HP cartridge. HP printers are designed to work best with HP cartridges, and using non-HP cartridges can sometimes cause problems.
  • If you are using a third-party or refilled cartridge, check to see if it has an HP chip. If it does not, you may need to purchase a cartridge with an HP chip to ensure that your printer recognizes it as a genuine HP product.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
