HP Smart Tank 7602 All-in-One

I have an HO Smart Tank 7602 all-in-one printer right out of the box(second new one) and the document feed either jams on the second piece of paper or takes too many. I have cleaned the roller heads, use the correct paper and checked the alignment. Is there anything else I can do?

Hi @Double_Trouble

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for posting your query! We're here to help you get back up and running.

It’s frustrating to encounter document feed issues with a brand-new printer, especially when you’ve already tried the important steps like cleaning the rollers and checking the alignment.

Here are additional troubleshooting steps to help resolve the problem:

1. Adjust Paper Placement

Ensure the paper stack is inserted correctly in the input tray:

Fan the paper before loading to separate the sheets and reduce static cling.

Make sure the stack is aligned evenly and lies flat, without any bent corners.

Do not overfill the tray—load only up to the recommended capacity specified in your printer’s manual.

2. Inspect the Paper Type

While you’re already using the correct paper, verify its condition:

Avoid damp, wrinkled, or curled sheets, as these can cause feeding issues.

Use high-quality, 75–90 gsm (20–24 lb.) plain paper for best results.

Avoid mixing paper types or sizes in a single load.

3. Clean the Pickup Rollers Thoroughly

If the rollers weren’t cleaned deeply, residue might still be causing issues:

Turn off the printer and unplug it.

Locate the paper pickup rollers (refer to your manual if needed).

Use a lint-free cloth dampened with distilled water to clean all rollers thoroughly.

Allow the rollers to dry completely before powering the printer back on.

4. Check for Debris in the Paper Path

Small bits of paper or debris can cause jams or misfeeds:

Use a flashlight to inspect the paper path inside the printer.

Remove any paper scraps or obstructions gently with tweezers if necessary.

5. Perform a Printer Reset

A factory reset can sometimes fix hardware misbehavior:

With the printer turned on, unplug it from the power source.

Wait 60 seconds, then plug it back in and power it on.

Test the document feeder again after the reset.

6. Update Printer Firmware

HP regularly releases new firmware versions for printer enhancements, app updates, or issue fixes. Update the firmware regularly to get the most out of your printer.
