Trying to get paper out of back and it’s stuck so bad that there’s hardly anything to hold onto to pull it out

Hi @Abuelita1,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query.

I am sorry to hear that you're experiencing a severe paper jam in your printer and there's not much paper to grip, here are some steps you can take to safely remove the jam:

Turn Off the Printer:

  • First, turn off your printer and unplug it from the power source to prevent any electrical hazards or damage.

Open the Rear Access Door:

  • Many printers have a rear access door or a paper path cover. Open this if possible, as it may provide better access to the jammed paper.

Gently Pull the Paper:

  • If any part of the paper is visible, carefully pull it out using both hands to avoid tearing. Pull the paper slowly and evenly to prevent further tearing or jamming.

Avoid Using Tools:

  • Do not use sharp objects like tweezers or scissors to remove paper, as this can damage the printer’s internal components.

Check the Paper Path:

  • Look through the paper path (from the rear access door or front tray) to ensure there are no remaining bits of paper or other obstructions.

Open the Front Cover:

  • If the paper cannot be accessed from the back, open the front cover and try to remove it from there, ensuring you gentle.

Use Manual Rollers:

  • If your printer has manual rollers, gently turn these to help move the jammed paper.

Take care and have an amazing day!
