HP LaserJet Pro CM1415fnw Color Multifunction Printer

I attempted to replace the pickup roller in my CM1415 printer.

I obviously did this incorrectly, because now when the printer starts, or when I try to print, I hear a loud ratcheting sound.

I am willing to take this device in for service, but I have not been able to find anyone around here who is willing to perform this service.

That did the trick.

I had to cut the rubber part off of the messed up pickup roller and work it out from behind the roller.

Then I was able to rotate the mechanism by hand far enough to click the roller properly in place.

Then I used the service menu to rotate it and installed a new pickup roller (I'm glad that I bought 2).

The printer seems to work just fine now.

Thank you for your help.

How did you rotate the pickup roller using the force or from the service menu? It's very unlikely you install it incorrectly unless you use a lot of force to do it wrong.

I used the service menu.

What I think I did wrong was to not click the new roller securely in place.

I am assuming that the roller spun in place when the printer started up, and now it is stuck.

Yes, probably the shaft where the pickup roller is mounted is out of the home position making a very loud noise when the printer is turned ON. You can lift the printer and use your hand to rotate the pickup roller ( and shaft ) hoping it will get out of the blocked position.
