CP1215
Microsoft Windows 11

I have a CP1215 Color Laserjet.  I want to print on heavy / thick paper (business card stock).  Does the printer allow this thickness of paper.  Online says up to up to 220g/m², which sounds very high.  The back door seems to be only for paper jams although many printers will have back door for printing where paper comes out straight out of the back when using that door.  So question is (a) whether it will allow indeed up to 220g/m² and (b) whether I could print with the back door open as it will keep paper straight (and in my opinion otherwise might create a jam as well on thick paper when paper is being forced to curl around drums).

I do own this product, don't know why I couldn't add it to my profile... (I entered serial number and somehow it didn't accept it... pfffff).

Many thanks

@waffleman1, Welcome to HP Support Community,

Thank you for posting your query; I’m here to help by guiding you through steps to resolve this issue

The HP Color LaserJet CP1215 is an older but solid printer, and HP does publish exact media specifications for it. Printing on business card stock is possible, but you’ll need to follow the supported media rules to avoid jams or toner not fusing correctly.

Here’s the breakdown and steps:

Confirm Supported Media Weight

According to HP’s specifications, the CP1215 supports:

Tray 1 (priority feed slot): 60–220 g/m²

Tray 2 (main tray): 60–163 g/m²

This means:

For very heavy paper (up to 220 g/m²), you must use Tray 1 (manual feed).

Tray 2 is not designed for >163 g/m² and will likely jam.

Printer Settings for Heavy Paper

In your print driver (on Windows or Mac):

Go to Properties or Printing PreferencesPaper/Quality tab.

Select Cardstock, Heavy, or Labels (depending on driver wording).

This tells the printer to adjust fuser temperature and speed for thicker paper.

Load the Paper Correctly

Insert the card stock into Tray 1 (single-sheet priority tray).

Make sure the guides are snug but not bent against the paper.

Avoid overloading; feed only 1 sheet at a time if jams occur.

I hope this helps.

Please feel free to reply here if you have any questions or if you need further clarification on any of the steps.

Take care and have a good day.
