My husband totally removed tray number two from our LaserJet printer number  FP 476 nw.  I am unable to put the tray back in the printer. Is there something special you’re supposed to do other than trying to slide it into place? Thank you

There are no special requirements to install tray.  Should just slide into printer.  Empty the cassette tray.  Try to install.  Where does it bind up?  Post pictures if possible.

Catches about 2” in.  The grey tray seems to have come apart from red plastic tray beneath it.  We have tried every angle possible and it won’t slide in.

Thank you for your reply.  Please confirm the printer model.  You identified printer as a FP 476nw.  Did you mean to write HP CLJ M476nw?  If so, the cassette tray for this printer, RM@-5469-000CN, does not have red plastic.  Tray should be dark/light gray in color.  A picture red area would help too.  Google tray part number and compare to your tray.

I have solved this problem.  The red plastic tray doesn’t go underneath the paper tray but on top. Then it slides in perfectly just one stop
