Hi @Sailingirl

Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.

If your HP Envy Photo 6255 All-in-One printer's carriage is catching on paper and causing jams, you can try the following steps to resolve the issue:

Steps to Fix Paper Jam Issues

Clear Any Paper Jams:

  • Turn off the printer and open the door to access the paper path and cartridges.
  • Check for any jammed paper or debris and gently remove it. Ensure there are no torn pieces left inside.

Inspect and Clean the Rollers:

  • Use a flashlight to check the paper feed rollers for dust or debris. If dirty, gently clean them with a lint-free cloth lightly moistened with distilled water.
  • Ensure the rollers are able to rotate freely.

Examine the Carriage Path:

  • Ensure the carriage moves freely across the width of the printer. Check if there is any obstruction preventing its movement.
  • Manually slide it left and right to see if it encounters resistance.

Check for Blockages:

  • Make sure there is no obstruction or foreign object in the carriage and paper feed area.

Check Paper Type and Quality:

  • Verify the paper type and quality being used. Ensure it's compatible with the printer, not thick, curled, or overly textured.
  • Use fresh and recommended paper types such as plain or photo paper.

Adjust the Paper Tray:

  • Ensure the paper tray is adjusted properly and that paper guides are not too tight against the paper stack.

Perform a Printer Reset:

  • Turn off the printer, unplug it, and wait for about one minute. Plug it back in and turn it on.

Update Printer Firmware:

  • Visit the HP website to check for any available firmware updates for your printer, as updates can sometimes resolve operational issues.

Check for Hardware Issues:

  • If the carriage continues to jam despite these checks, it may be a mechanical issue requiring professional servicing.

If these steps do not resolve the issue, you may want to consider reaching out to HP support for further assistance, as persistent carriage issues might indicate a need for hardware repair or a replacement part.
