6978 All In One Printer
macOS 11.0 Big Sur

I am getting a code Ox600004a on my 6978 Printer which prevents the ink cartridge from moving.  Message claims paper jam but there is no jam.  Cannot get the printer to work after unplugging several times and doing a semi hard reset.  Now all I get is the paper jam message and the "something is wrong with the printer" code which will not let me toggle over to other prompts.  HP has offered no help as my printer is more than 30 days out of warranty.  The HP virtual assistant does nothing either.  Can someone indicate whAt the problem is and make suggestions to fix it?  Thanks!

Hi @MacF3,

I'd like to help!

Let's try a power reset on the printer

Reset the product

  • With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer.
  • Unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.
  • Wait at least 60 seconds.
  • Plug the power cord back into the wall outlet.
  • Reconnect the power cord to the printer.
  • Turn the printer on. HP recommends plugging the printer directly into a wall outlet.

Try the steps in the document --A 'Paper Jam' Error Displays

If the issue persists, I'd suggest you Contact HP in your region regarding the service options for your printer

Hope this helps! Keep me posted.
