I could not able to print usin A4 sheet as it is stuck and throwing error. I could not able to change the printer page setup to A4 as it is not showing that size. Default printer page setup is A5 instead of A4..

Hi @rNaveenmec, Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It looks like your HP DeskJet Ink Advantage 4178 printer is not detecting A4 as an available paper size. Here are some troubleshooting steps to resolve the issue:

Check and Set Paper Size in Printer Preferences

  1. Go to Control Panel → Devices and Printers.
  2. Right-click on your HP DeskJet 4178 printer and select Printing Preferences.
  3. Look for a Paper Size option under the Paper/Quality tab.
  4. If A4 is not listed, try changing the Paper Source or selecting a different print quality.
  5. Click Apply and then OK.

Update or Reinstall Printer Drivers

Update drivers:

  1. Open Device Manager (Win + X → Device Manager).
  2. Expand Printers and right-click on your HP printer.
  3. Click Update driver and select Search automatically for drivers.
  4. Restart your PC after updating.

Reinstall drivers:

  1. Go to HP Support and download the latest driver for your printer.
  2. Uninstall the current driver from Control Panel → Programs and Features.
  3. Install the downloaded driver and restart your PC.

Set A4 as Default Paper Size in Windows

  1. Open Control Panel → Devices and Printers.
  2. Right-click your printer and choose Printer Properties.
  3. Under the Advanced tab, click Printing Defaults.
  4. Set the Default Paper Size to A4 and click Apply.

Manually Add A4 Paper Size (if missing)

  1. Open Control Panel → Devices and Printers.
  2. Click on Print Server Properties (at the top).
  3. Under the Forms tab, check if A4 is listed.
  4. If not, click Create a new form, enter A4 dimensions (210mm x 297mm), and save it.

Check Printer Firmware

  1. Visit HP support website and check for any available firmware updates.
  2. Install the update and restart the printer.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
