Difficulty with printing envelopes for HP 7858

I can't get the program to recognize that I have loaded an envelope so it won't ask me what size, or otherwise print an envelope.

 I'd like to help!

To better assist you - 

1)Are you able to make copies using the printers?

2) What's the application you are trying to print from? Have you tried printing from a different application or device? 

3)What is the envelope size you are printing?

 Refer to the printer specifications to know the supported paper size and type.

1. Yes, I can print docs from this printer otherwise.

2. Using MS Word (the latest program) to print from. No other printers are available on my home network.

3. No. 10 envelopes.

Try the below suggestions-

 Load envelopes into the input tray

How you load envelopes depends on where the paper input tray is on your printer, and what type of printer you have.

   CAUTION: 

To avoid jams or damage to the printer, do not print envelopes with clasps, windows, shiny surfaces, or coated linings. If you are printing with a LaserJet or Laser printer, do not use envelopes with self-stick adhesives other synthetic materials that are susceptible to heat.

• Inkjet printers with a rear load tray: Front of envelope facing up and the flap to the left

• Inkjet printers with a front load tray: Front of envelope facing down and the flap to the left

• Laser printers with a front load tray: Front of envelope facing up and the flap to the left

Once loaded, slide in the paper width guides until they rest against the edges of the envelope.

Load envelopes into rear load input tray

On your computer go to word-

1. Go to Mailings > Envelopes, and enter delivery and return addresses.

2. Place the blank envelope in the printer tray, according to the diagram in the Feed box.

   

3. Select Print.

Tip: If the delivery address is especially long, or your envelope is a different size, select Options before you hit Print, and make your choices. Adjusting the amount From left gives you more room for the delivery address.

Install the printer using Windows built-in driver

Install the built-in print driver over a network connection with Windows 10 or Windows 8.

1. In Windows, search for and open Control Panel.

2. Click Devices and Printers, and then click Add a printer.

   

3. On the Choose a device or printer to add to this PC window, select your printer, click Next, and then follow the on-screen instructions to install the driver. If your printer is not in the list, continue with these steps.

   

4. Click The printer I want isn't listed, and then select Add a local printer or network printer with manual settings.

   

5. Click Next.

6. Select the port to be used by your printer, such as USB001 for a USB connected printer, and then click Next.

7. Click Windows Update, and then wait for the print drivers to update.

8. Click HP, Hewlett-Packard, or Hewlett Packard in the Manufacturer pane, and then click the name of your printer in the Printers pane.

   • If your printer is in the list, select it, click Next, and then follow the on-screen instructions to install the driver.

   • If your printer is not in the list, click the back arrow in the upper left corner of the window two times to return to the Find a printer by other options step, and then continue with these steps.

9. Select Add a printer using TCP/IP address or hostname, and then click Next.

   

10. Select Autodetect from the Device type drop-down list.

11. Type your printer IP address into the text box, and then click Next.

    To find the printer IP address, print a Wireless Network Test report or a Network Configuration page.

12. Wait for the computer to connect to the printer, and then click Next to install the print driver.

This last suggestion worked. Loaded newer, proper driver. MIckey Moused around with the face face down, etc. boogy woogy and finally got it to print an envelope. Voila! Thanks.
