The answer is maybe.

Card stock varies by paper manufacture - Most paper is likely one of the ISO manufacturing types.

For example, paper might be type  Bond, Cover, Text or Index (typical for defining HP "Card" paper).

Make sure the paper is in Tray 1

Select the Source = Tray 1 (as opposed to leaving the setting to "Automatic")

Select paper / media =  type Brochure matte (or Professional)

Select the paper size

Notes

Duplex is not supported in all sizes of paper.

Duplex is not compatible with Photo Paper.

What?

If the selected combination of paper type (media), paper size, and duplex are not compatible, the driver will balk and ask that it be corrected.

If you can find and select an "accepted" combination in the print driver settings, the paper has a good chance of working as expected.

According to specs here: https://support.hp.com/us-en/product/hp-officejet-pro-8710-all-in-one-printer-series/7902014/documen...

Does not list support for duplexing anything other than plain paper.

That does not mean you may not be able to duplex but there is no guarantee on reliability of feeding. Your best bet with heavier media is to manually duplex by printing the first side and then reinserting the media in tray 1 to print side 2.

@Repairatrooper is correct, of course.

@Repairatrooper works with printers in a professional capacity and understands the products.

So

Excellent idea.

Yes, so?

In my opinion, it comes to this:

Manual duplex, assuming the paper is supported at all, is certainly an option for occasional printing.  Manual 2-sided printing more complicated if you are trying to print certain projects, for example, "booklet" style (greeting card - front, inside left/right, back of card).

  • Printer condition - including a factor of age, level of use, maintenance history
  • Type of paper and how that translates into the paper weight
  • Whether the printer supports the paper and can produce the necessary results
  • Job / Project type

What about the Paper?

If your card stock is made from Bond paper, 65lb paper is 245gsm and is unsupported.

The paper might print single sided, though it is just as likely the paper will jam and refuse to print.  There is not a driver setting to accommodate paper of this weight in other than photo paper.  In general, Photo paper cannot be selected in the driver (print dialog) unless you are actually using Photo paper.

If your card stock is made from Cover paper, 65lb paper is just 176gsm - the paper is similar to Brochure paper (made from Bond paper = 47-48 lb and 176-180 gsm).  2-sided printing is supported at this weight.

Select media / paper type = Brochure, Professional, Thick, Card, or similar.

There are dozens of charts on the 'net to help you understand how paper types compare without having to actually understand the manufacturing process and the math involved in the conversion.  Pick one.

One example,

Paper_Weight_1EPaper_Weight_1E
