Hi @Jon1966

Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.

The E4 error on your Envy 6452 typically indicates a carriage or paper jam issue, even if no obvious jam is visible. Here are the steps you can follow to clear it:

Power Reset

  • With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer.
  • Unplug the cord from the wall outlet.
  • Wait at least 60 seconds, then reconnect the power cord directly to a wall outlet and to the printer.
  • Turn the printer back on.

Check the Input Tray

  • Remove all paper from the input tray.
  • Inspect inside the tray for any torn pieces of paper or debris.
  • Reload a small stack of clean, aligned paper.

Check the Output Tray

  • Look for any jammed or partially fed sheets.
  • Remove any paper carefully without tearing it.

Open the Cartridge Access Area

  • Lift the ink cartridge access door.
  • Gently move the carriage left and right to ensure it moves freely.
  • Remove any obstructions or bits of paper.
  • Close the access door securely.

Check the Rear Access Panel

  • Remove the rear cleanout door or duplexer if installed.
  • Look inside for jammed paper or debris.
  • Reinstall the panel or duplexer firmly.

Run a Test

  • After reassembling, load paper and try printing a test page.
  • If the error persists, repeat the inspection steps carefully, as even small scraps of paper can trigger the error.

These steps usually resolve the E4 error by ensuring the carriage path and paper feed are clear. If the issue continues after multiple checks, the printer may need further servicing.
