My HP Envy 5544 All In One printer refuses to print. The printer is connected via wireless to a computer running Windows 10 64 bit. The printer will not pick up the paper when trying to print. I have followed the instructions for a paper jam error by ensuring that no scraps of paper are ln the printer, and by cleaning all the rollers. I have tried a hard reset as instructed in a similar post from the HP community forum, and a factory reset from the options on the printer screen, all to no avail. I did notice that the printer cartridge carriage is unable to be moved from its parking position at the right of the carriage track by hand, with the printer turned off. Yet the carriage seems to run from side to side, under its own power when the printer is turned on. The printer will scan a document when instructed to do so by the computer. This indicates to me that the wireless connection is working fine. This printer has had little use and is about six years old.
Thank you in anticipation. Edward1752

Hi @Ed-ward_1752,
Welcome to the HP Support Community.
Do not worry, I'd be happy to help you!
If you're experiencing a false paper jam error on your HP ENVY 5544 printer, there are a few steps you can try to resolve the issue.
- Clear any jammed paper: Open the printer's access door and carefully remove any jammed paper or debris. Make sure to check all areas of the printer, including the input and output trays, as well as the cartridge access area. Use a flashlight if necessary to get a better view.
- Check for sensor issues: Paper jam errors are often caused by sensors detecting paper in the wrong place. Look for any sensors in the paper path and ensure they are clean and unobstructed. Use a lint-free cloth lightly dampened with water to clean the sensors if needed. Be gentle and avoid touching the internal components.
- Reset the printer: Turn off the printer, unplug the power cord, and wait for about 30 seconds. Then, plug the power cord back in and turn on the printer. This will perform a basic reset and may clear any temporary issues causing the false paper jam error.
- Update firmware and drivers: Visit the HP Support website and check if there are any firmware or driver updates available for your printer model. Updating the printer's software can sometimes resolve compatibility issues and improve performance.
- Adjust paper guides and settings: Make sure the paper guides in the input tray are properly aligned and snugly hold the paper in place. Additionally, verify that the paper size and type settings in the printer driver match the paper you're using. Incorrect settings can sometimes trigger false paper jam errors.
If you have performed all the steps already, then the printer needs to be checked for hardware issues. I recommend you contact phone support.
