Recently my HP 4020 color laser printer has been getting paper jams in the fuser area.
Is this most likely a sign that the printer needs general cleaning/maintenance?
OR is it more likely to imply that the fuser unit needs to be replaced?

there are a lot of reasons that can cause this. do you get an error code on the screen. Misfeeding from the paper trays can cause jams when paper goes out of timing sequence. based on the age, if you have never replaced the fuser it is likely bad, but also the felts on the feed solenoids and the exit flags as well. In the exit bin, push down gently on the exit flags and then try to lift them up. If there is any resistance then the bumpers need to be replaced.

I have cleaned the thin roller just below the fuser with a microfiber cloth. That seems to have resolved the fuser issue, as the printer is working fine now. If I want to clean this roller more fully, what method should I use?
