Hello...

My HP 8020 series printer is constantly using more than one page if I have to print more than 2 pages. It feeds in the paper, but I can't see that it took in more, and it will print a partial of page one, then on the second sheet of paper it will print some more, then it will print the rest on another page and spit it out in the tray as if it were done. Sometimes it will do the above mentioned even if I print ONE page. It will pull in 2 or 3 sheets and print that one page partially,  and the rest on second or 3rd sheet. This leads to a lot of used pages on my HP Instant Ink+ paper account.

This leads to me to ONLY feed it ONE page at a time in the tray to get it printed properly.  God forbid I have 20+ pages to print doing it one page at a time, constantly opening the tray to load another sheet!

I cleaned all the heads manually, also let the printer do a full cleaning automatically, I even reset it to factory defaults.

Drivers are up to date, etc.  It has done this for a long, long time. And, of course the warranty is long expired. It started AFTER the warranty expired. I'm tempted to get another upgraded printer, but just cannot afford it for a long time. So, I'm stuck with this one.

The paper is not damp from humidity,  and I've even tried shaking out each sheet before loading them in, still to no avail, it keeps happening.  The HP paper is the right kind for my printer. And, I'm not overloading too much paper in the tray.

Anyone e have a solution besides the ones I already tried?

Oh, BTW...it will print normally if I use parchment paper, but that is too expensive for me.

I'm at a loss here...please help if you can.

@Ozzyfied1124, Welcome to HP Support Community,

Thank you for posting your query; I’m here to help by guiding you through steps to resolve this issue

It sounds like you're dealing with a frustrating issue! From the description, it seems like your HP 8020 series printer is misfeeding, which can cause the partial printing across multiple sheets. Since you've already done a number of the basic troubleshooting steps (cleaning the heads, factory reset, ensuring the paper is dry, etc.), there are still a few other things you can try.

Check the Paper Tray and Feed Rollers

Paper Alignment: Ensure that the paper in the tray is properly aligned and that the paper guides are snug but not too tight. If the paper is not aligned correctly, the printer may misfeed.

Paper Rollers: The rollers that feed the paper could be dirty, worn, or need to be adjusted. Even a slight misalignment or dirt buildup can cause the printer to grab multiple sheets of paper at once.

To clean the rollers, turn off the printer and unplug it.

Use a soft lint-free cloth lightly dampened with water to wipe the rollers (do NOT use alcohol as it may cause damage).

If the rollers are worn or damaged, you may need to replace them. You can typically order replacement rollers from HP or a third-party supplier.

Update Printer Firmware (Update the firmware on an HP printer | HP® Support)

  • Go to the HP Customer Support - Software and Driver Downloads page. Enter your printer model number and search for the latest firmware update. Follow the instructions to download and install the firmware update.

Adjust the Paper Type Settings

Sometimes, the printer may not be detecting the paper correctly, even if it’s the right type. Check the settings in the print dialog on your computer:

Print Settings: In your print preferences, make sure you're selecting the correct paper type and size (e.g., Plain Paper).

Paper Size: If the printer is incorrectly set to a larger paper size (like A4 instead of Letter), it can misfeed.

Check for Paper Jams or Obstructions

Even though you've already cleaned the print heads, there could still be small bits of paper or dust inside the printer causing feed issues. Look around the paper path for any potential blockages, and make sure the printer’s paper path is clear.

Perform a Printer Reset (again)

This is a bit more involved than just resetting to factory defaults, but it can help:

Unplug the Printer: Unplug the printer from the power source and remove any paper from the tray.

Wait 1-2 minutes: Let the printer sit for a while to allow all internal components to reset.

Plug it Back In: Plug the printer back in and try printing again.

I hope this helps.

Please feel free to reply here if you have any questions or if you need further clarification on any of the steps.

Take care and have a good day.

Thank you for your reply. Sorry, I just saw this.

I will try the additional steps you suggested today and post back as soon as I solve the issue (or not solve it).

I have been so frustrated with this issue, but I cannot buy a new printer right now. My sister has a great, professional printer that is top quality for all the work she prints out for her job at home. It's an office type printer that stands tall, and it is an HP as well.  Too expensive for me.

Anyway, your reply seems as if I did miss some steps, lol.

As I said,  will update here.

Thanks...
