HP ENVY 6030
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hello,

my printer keeps on reporting error E4 (paper jam) although there is none. I looked everywhere I could in the printer, if there is a piece of paper, factory resetted, and cleaned the printer, but still I get this error. I don't  know what else to do, so maybe someone here has any idea.

While looking inside I noticed, that on the right side, where the cartridges park some liquid ink was under the cartridges at the bottom. Is that normal, or could this indicate a problem?

Could it also be, that there is a problem with a sensor?

Best regards

Hi @Jealous25

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for posting your query! We're here to help you get back up and running.

It sounds like your HP ENVY 6030 is experiencing a false paper jam error (E4), and the liquid ink under the cartridges might be contributing to the issue.

Here are some steps to address both problems:

Resolving the Paper Jam Error (E4):

Reset the Printer:

  • Turn off the printer and unplug it from the power source.
  • Wait for about 60 seconds, then plug it back in and turn it on. This can clear false error messages.

Inspect for Hidden Debris:

  • Open the ink cartridge access area and check for any small pieces of paper or debris that might be causing the error.
  • Move the cartridge carriage to the far left and far right to ensure the path is clear.

Clean the Paper Path:

  • Remove the paper path cover and clean the rollers and path using a lint-free cloth dampened with distilled water. Let it dry completely before reassembling.

Run HP Diagnostics:

  • Use the HP Print and Scan Doctor tool to diagnose and fix the issue. It can be downloaded from the HP Support website.

Addressing Liquid Ink Under Cartridges:

Clean the Ink Cartridge Area:

  • Turn off the printer and unplug it.
  • Use a lint-free cloth to gently clean the area under the cartridges. Be careful not to damage the cartridge contacts.

Check for Leaking Cartridges:

  • Remove the cartridges and inspect them for leaks or damage. If they are leaking, replace them with new HP cartridges.

Inspect the Printhead:

  • If the printhead is removable, clean it gently with a damp cloth and let it dry before reinserting it.

Update Firmware:

Hi again and sorry for the late answer,

I've resetted the printer, inspected it for hidden debris, cleaned the paper path, run HP Diagnostics, cleaned the ink cartridge area and checked for leaking cartridges, and haven't found any problems.
Since the printhead isn't removable and the firmware is up to date I haven't tried the last two suggested steps.
But still I get the error E4.
So what now?

@Jealous25, Welcome to HP Support Community,

Thank you so much for posting your query! My colleague @Hawks_Eye is currently out, but don't worry – I’ll be taking over and making sure we get this sorted for you.

I’m here to help, and together, we’ll work through this!

Automatically clear the jam

Paper jams can be real or false. The printer might report a paper jam even when there is no jam.

On the printer control panel, press the Cancel button to automatically clear the paper jam.

Reset the printer

Reset the printer to recover from printer errors or failures.

Press the power button to turn off the printer. If the printer does not turn off, disconnect the power cord from the printer.

Unplug the power cord from the power source.

Wait 60 seconds.

Connect the power cord directly to a wall outlet and to the printer.

Turn on the printer to complete the reset.

Also, refer to this guide for further troubleshooting steps: HP DeskJet, ENVY 6000, 6400 printers - E4 (Paper jam) error | HP® Support

I truly hope these steps help get things back on track. If you have any questions or need any further clarification, just let me know – I’m happy to guide you through it and make sure everything works perfectly.

Take care, and I hope you have an amazing day ahead! 😊

Thanks for your answer. But unfortunately these steps do not help either, I'v tried them all. So are there any other steps I can take to make my printer work again?
