@Mycailin, Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
It sounds like your HP Envy printer is experiencing a false paper jam where the printer reports a jam even though there's no visible paper stuck. The clattering or grinding noise may indicate a mechanical obstruction or misalignment inside the printer. Here are some steps you can try to resolve this:

Power Cycle the Printer

  • Turn off the printer and unplug it from the power source.
  • Wait for at least 60 seconds.
  • Plug it back in and turn it on.

Check All Access Areas

  • Open the input tray, output tray, rear access panel, and ink cartridge access area.
  • Use a flashlight to inspect for:
    • Tiny bits of torn paper
    • Foreign objects (like paper clips or dust)
    • Misaligned rollers or carriage

Manually Move the Carriage

  • With the printer off, gently move the ink cartridge carriage left and right to ensure it’s not stuck.
  • If it resists, don’t force it—there may be an obstruction.

Clean the Paper Feed Rollers

  • Use a lint-free cloth slightly dampened with distilled water.
  • Gently clean the rollers inside the input tray and under the printer.

Reset the Printer

  • After cleaning, plug the printer back in.
  • Hold the Power button for 15 seconds to perform a soft reset.

Update Firmware and Drivers

Thanks for your input. This printer is under warranty. When you need to print, you need to print. You don't need to wait for support on a printer that has printed MAYbe 25 pages and is less than a year old. This is why I hate HP products: not well built, poor tech/customer support. I don't have time for that. I bought a new laser printer (NOT an HP) yesterday and gave away the HP. I am now done with HP products forever. But, again, I thank you for your response. Slow in coming as it was, it's better than none at all.

This help was too late in coming. HP takes its customers for granted--as if we can simply wait when the products we purchase from them do not work when they are still under warranty and have had almost no use. When you need to use a product you've purchased, you need to use it--NOT wait for the manufacturer to get around to standing behind their product and give you some tech support. The US pushes its people to work like animals and builds **bleep** products for us to use to accomplish our tasks. This is why people purchase products manufactured elsewhere--and countries rely on tariffs when they make crappy products and can't compete on a global market. HP's products used to be fairly reliable--but no more. HP builds everything they make as cheap crap so they can sell us a replacement in a year or less. It's transparent and a betrayal of your customers and the US. When I bought this printer less than a year ago it was my last HP purchase, and I bought it to print documents I needed to immigrate OUT of the US (when trump was elected again). I have given up all faith in this country and most of the products made here because the US corporate "culture" is to **bleep** both workers and customers for the sake of shareholders, and HP has exemplified this trend. Twenty years ago HP made good products and you could get customer support on the phone and resolve an issue quickly but, in an ongoing effort to screw everyone but shareholders (They're next.) that has all gone down the tubes along with the whole country. Without integrity, a company, a country, a people, a person--they are all worthless. A piece of advice: Build with integrity and make all your products to last and stand behind them vigilantly. Then you'll outperform all the competition--who are also screwing their customers--which will make your company and your products stand out, drawing business--and profits--in the old fashion way: by EARNING it.
