HP LaserJet 1320n Printer

Hello,

I have an HP LJ1320DN that has worked great until recently.  I put in a brand new HP OEM cartridge (extra yield) and wont P/U the paper From tray #2.  When I put the new cartridge in, it sounded like the gearing was working harder than normal. I did install a new p/u roller maintenance kit.  When I try to print a sample page, I can hear the solenoid in the tray click twice (rotate the p/u roller shaft) and can see it rotate with the side cover off.  Then the light flashes on the red button and I have to click it to reset.

INTERESTINGLY:  I saw this on another post, I just put the printer on it's left side so that I can see the gears function to describe here and it actually printed while on it's side...  weird??   Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated! Thank you.

Regards,

Eric

If the gearing is rotating but the pickup roller is not then either the roller is not seated properly or the pickup shaft has been dislodged and is not engaging in the pickup roller. Based on your description it sounds like the roller is not locked in place properly.

Thank you very much for your time and insights!  With Tray 2 removed (and the printer still on its left side), I checked to see if the p/u roller is locked in place and it definitely is.  With the tray removed and black flag engaged, the p/u rotates and is locked in place.  I inserted the tray back in (printer still on its' side and it did print.  I carefully put the printer right-side up and it printed 2-3 copies and then it reverted back to not feeding (might be making a different noise in the gearing).  To make sure, I put the printer back on its left side and it indeed prints.  Perhaps a clutch is not engaging?  Thank you again! Eric
