My printer continously jams....I clear it but it continues  to jam and causes my text to be jagged. I realign it and clean the rollers but the same issue persists.  Is it worth having someone come out to see if it can be repaired?

Hi @Rosebudej,

Welcome to The HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I understand you are facing an issue with our HP OfficeJet 5740, combined with jagged text, indicates a mechanical issue that could be caused by one or more of the following:

Common Causes of Paper Jams and Jagged Text

  1. Worn or Dirty Rollers: Even after cleaning, worn rollers may fail to feed paper smoothly.
  2. Obstructions: Small bits of paper or debris stuck deep inside the paper path.
  3. Damaged Gears or Internal Components: Misaligned or broken components can cause paper feeding issues and irregular print alignment.
  4. Incorrect Paper Settings: Paper size, type, or quality settings may not match the loaded paper.
  5. Firmware or Driver Issues: Outdated firmware or drivers may contribute to alignment problems.

Steps to Troubleshoot Further

  1. Inspect Rollers Thoroughly: Check if the rollers are worn down. Worn rollers may need to be replaced.
  2. Check for Hidden Obstructions: Use a flashlight to inspect all areas of the paper path, including the back panel and tray. Small fragments of paper can cause recurrent jams.
  3. Use Proper Paper: Ensure the paper is of the correct type and not curled, damp, or overly thick for your printer.
  4. Update Firmware and Drivers:
    • Visit the HP support site and download the latest firmware for your printer.
  5. Perform a Factory Reset: A reset can address potential software-related issues.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
