Hi @Corleone888,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

I understand how frustrating this is when the ink carriage (the “ink arm”) on an HP OfficeJet Pro 9014e won’t move; it usually means the printer is stuck in a jammed state or the carriage lock mechanism is engaged. This is a common issue when the printer detects an obstruction or fails to complete initialization.

Why This Happens

  • Paper jam or debris blocking the carriage path.
  • Carriage latch not released properly.
  • Printer stuck in error mode after a failed alignment or jam.
  • Internal sensor misread (even if nothing is physically jammed).

Steps to Fix It

1. Power Reset

  • Turn off the printer and unplug it for 60 seconds.
  • While unplugged, gently open the ink access door and check if the carriage moves freely by hand.
  • If it’s locked, do not force it; move to step 2.

2. Check for Obstructions

  • Remove any paper scraps or packing material inside the printer.
  • Inspect the carriage path and rollers for debris.

3. Release Carriage Lock

  • Some OfficeJet models have a small latch near the carriage that locks during transport.
  • Ensure it’s in the unlocked position.

4. Plug Back In and Restart

  • Plug the printer back in and power it on.
  • Wait for the printer to initialize listen for carriage movement.

5. Update Firmware

6. If Carriage Still Won’t Move

  • The carriage motor or sensor may have failed.
  • This requires HP service, especially if under warranty.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have an amazing day!
