Hi @LMBL,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

Thank you for reaching out regarding your HP OfficeJet Pro 7740 Wide Format All-in-One Printer. If the printer is continuing to report paper jams even after clearing all visible paper, follow the steps below to resolve this issue:

Step 1: Power Reset the Printer

  1. With the printer powered on, unplug it from the wall and from the rear.
  2. Wait 60 seconds.
  3. Plug it directly into a wall outlet (not a surge protector).
  4. Turn the printer back on.

This resets the sensor systems and may clear a false jam.

Step 2: Check All Paper Path Areas

Remove all paper trays and open all access doors — even if no paper is visible:

  1. Input tray – make sure paper isn’t misaligned or bent.
  2. Output tray – gently lift and inspect underneath.
  3. Duplexer/rear access door:
    • Remove it and check for paper scraps or curled edges.
  4. Inside the ink carriage area:
    • Open the ink access door.
    • Wait for the carriage to move aside.
    • Check the entire paper path.
    • Use a flashlight to look inside both the left and right sides.
  5. Wide-format tray (Tray 2) – if using 11x17" or similar, check for curled corners or overload.

Even small scraps of paper or debris can trigger the jam sensor.

Step 3: Clean the Paper Feed Rollers

Dusty or worn rollers can cause jams.

  1. Power off and unplug the printer.
  2. Dampen a lint-free cloth with distilled water.
  3. Open the rear access and carefully clean the rollers inside.
  4. Let dry completely (5–10 minutes) before turning the printer back on.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
