Tried to print on HP premium plus 80 lb photo paper with the shinny side down with my 4 in 1, 8715 HP printer. Could not do it. I tried 3 times, wasting the photo paper because it jammed. I cleared the jam each time, then printed on Southworth 65 lb card stock just fine. The box, which holds the HP premium plus photo paper, states that the paper is “designed for ink jet printers” . I had a 8620, 4 in 1 HP printer, and this photo paper printed fine on that machine. But this “stupid” HP 8715 printer squeals and then jams with the same HP photo paper. So, So frustrating.

Hi @SeaSally,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
I understand your frustration with the printing issues you're experiencing with your HP OfficeJet Pro 8715 and the HP Premium Plus 80 lb photo paper. Let's troubleshoot this together.
Check Paper Loading: Ensure that you are loading the HP Premium Plus photo paper correctly into the printer. Sometimes, improper loading can cause jams. Here's the correct way to load it:
- Remove any other paper from the input tray.
- Load a stack of photo paper into the input tray with the short edge forward and the print side down. Adjust the paper-width guides until they lightly rest against the edges of the paper.
Printer Settings: Make sure your printer settings are adjusted for the correct paper type. Here's how to check and adjust the settings:
- Load the HP Premium Plus photo paper into the input tray.
- On your computer, open the document or photo you want to print.
- Click File, then Print. Select your printer, and then click Properties, Preferences, or Printer Properties.
- Look for the paper type or media type setting. Ensure it is set to "Photo Paper" or "HP Premium Plus Photo Paper."
- Also, check the paper size setting to match the size of the photo paper you are using.
Printer Maintenance: If the printer has been used extensively or hasn't been used for a while, it might need some maintenance:
- Run a printer cleaning cycle. This can often resolve print quality issues and paper feed problems.
- Check for any obstructions in the paper path. Even a small piece of paper or debris can cause jams.
Firmware Update: Sometimes, firmware updates can improve printer performance and compatibility with different paper types. Check if there are any updates available for your HP OfficeJet Pro 8715 printer.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.

I followed all your instruction to the T. I had always done everything you mentioned, but I did not remove the other type of paper under the photo paper in the tray. So as stated, I followed that advice and put only HP photo paper in the tray. It still jammed. UGH. Now as I think I mentioned my HP 8620, 4 in 1 printer used to take this paper just fine, but this stupid HP 8715, 4 in 1 does not. I hate to keeping wasting this expensive HP photo paper , but that is what has happened with the projects I have. I had to get rid of the 8620 because it was printing weird red color. I called HP and they tried to help and sent new red ink but it did not help. So now neither HP ,4 in 1 works for me.
