We have a HP Deskjet 2710 and are trying to print on small envelopes (actual size of envelope 133cmx88cm). We are setting the printer to smaller print size and it is coming out the right size but it is often wonky. Is there some way to make the envelope align better.on the tray to ensure the print job comes out straight? Or do we need to bight the bullet and buy a better printer (if so, any recommendations?)

I'm not sure there is anything you can do.

5.2 in x 3.5 in (rounded)

133 mm x 88 mm

The smaller "mm" paper size is supported - or close to it - envelope 88 mm is not quite the lower supported limit of 89 mm.

That said, small paper size does not always mean that envelopes in the lower paper size limit will work.

I've not had a 'top loading' printer - somewhere I think it's "said" that top loading is "better".

Can't judge whether that is the case.

I would guess the issue is the extreme small size of the envelope - that is, the envelope is at the smallest size range for "small paper" which would normally (likely) be "photo paper" and not "envelopes".

The obvious solution is to print labels - perhaps with fancy images and / or fonts to use on your little envelopes.  Label sheets are more widely accepted on printers of many types.
