I cannot explain why you have a USB connected printer in the list if you do not have a USB connected printer.

The fe# string looks like an IPv6 address.  Doctor tends to look for printers using connection protocols - I don't know whether what the doctors sees (in this instance) is significant.

It is true that the Easy Start wrapper can install the HP Smart application - that was not the intention this time, of course.

Having selected the Full Driver printer software would have left HP Smart alone.

It is true that the HP Smart application has recently updated (to newer versions) at least a couple of times within a brief period.  Yes, in the recent progression of events, "newer" is better.

What to do?

Were it me, I'd remove / uninstall the printer software and the HP Smart app and start over.

Suggestion

Make sure you do not skip any of the steps to Restart the computer.

Windows still loves a Restart after making changes to the File system.

=======================================================================

Uninstall the Full Feature Software from Control Panel > icon view > Programs and Features

Uninstall the HP Smart application from Settings > Apps > Apps and Features

Restart the computer and log in

Check Settings > Devices > Printers  & scanners

If you find an unwanted (should be uninstalled) device > Left-Click on the name of the device > Remove

If you remove any devices from the list, Restart the computer and log in

If you do not want to use the Easy Start Software wrapper method to install the driver and / or the HP Smart app,

Use the installation package for the full driver printer software and "Get" the app from the Store.

Basic Instructions - Install the Full Feature Software / Full Driver printer software

Find the software here:

HP OfficeJet Pro 7730 Wide Format All-in-One Print and Scan Driver and Accessories

  • If using VPN, shut it off to install software
  • Download and Save the Full Feature Software installation package or the Easy Start wrapper
  • Open File Explorer
  • Navigate to the folder in which you saved the installation file  (likely Downloads)
  • Reminder:  If using USB cable between printer and computer, disconnect the cable before installing software.
  • Right-Click on the installation package and “Run as Administrator
  • If using Easy Start > When asked, opt for "Full Driver" (exact wording might vary).
  • After the software is installed, Restart the computer and log in

Next,

HP Smart - Windows - Application

HP Smart is an application available in the Microsoft Store

OR

Open the Homepage / Support Website for your printer

Category Software and Drivers > Check the Box Get the App

Open and Read >>> HP printer setup (HP Smart app)

After you install the application > Restart the computer and log in.

Open the HP Smart app

Sign in (if not already done)

Add the printer

Welcome to the HP Community.

For those reading -

Review how to load paper in the User Guide

Use Trays Starting on Page 13

Load Paper Starting on Page 14

========================================================================

If the printer is on the network,

If the feature is supported on your printer,

Use the Embedded Web Server (EWS) to adjust / check Paper Size & Type - Tray and Paper Management

Example

Retain_Printing_Preferences_10Retain_Printing_Preferences_10

========================================================================

Next,

If you have not done so,

Install the Full Feature Software / full driver printer software for the printer.

===========================================================

>>> Check / Install the Full Feature Software / full driver printer software

The full driver provides the foundation on which other programs and printing software depend.

Preparation - Install Full Driver Printer Software

If you have not done so,

In addition to the HP Smart application,

Install the Full Feature Software / full driver printer software for the printer.

HP Smart and other print software / applications benefit from having the full driver installed.

Make sure your VPN is switched Off when installing software.

Printer Software Check - Is the printer software installed?

Notes

When the full driver printer software is installed,

Find the printer software listed in Control Panel > icon view > Programs and Features.

The installation of the full printer software adds two shortcut icons to the Desktop.

The Printer Assistant is named for the printer and provides access to Print , Scan , and Tools

HP Scan is named for itself and provides a direct call to the HP Scan software.

Programs_and_Features_Printer_Desktop_Icons_4Programs_and_Features_Printer_Desktop_Icons_4

Next...

Printer software installed but not working?

NOTE:  If the printer software shows installed but is not working as expected,

Uninstall the printer software from Control Panel > icon view > Programs and Features

Restart the computer and log in

What if?

If software will not uninstall, appears to be removed and is “still hanging around” after you uninstall / Restart...

Microsoft:  Fix problems that block programs from being installed or removed

OR

Revo Uninstaller (Free version)

then

Restart the computer and log in

Reminder:  If using USB, disconnect the USB printer cable between the printer and the computer before installing software.  (Re)Connect the USB cable when instructed to do so near the end of the installation procedure.

Install a fresh copy of the Full Feature Software / Full Driver printer software

Restart the computer and log in

===============================================================

Next...

Method - Use the Easy Start Wrapper to Install the Full Feature / Full Driver Software

For printers that support the option,

Use the Easy Start Software wrapper to install and configure the printer software.

  • Home Page - HP Easy Start
  • Open Category Software and Drivers
  • Open Topic: Software-Utility
  • Download-and-Save  the current version of the Easy Start wrapper to install your print software
  • If using USB:  Disconnect the USB cable between the printer and computer before installing the software.
  • Right-Click on the downloaded package and "Run as Administrator" to start the installation
  • Select to install the “Full Driver” / “Full Feature Software” / "Basic" software
  • If using USB:  Connect the cable when instructed to do so (near the end of the installation process).
  • After the software is installed, Restart the computer and log in.

Optional Notes >> Easy Start... The Journey

  1. Full Administrator Rights are required to complete the HP Software installation.
  2. About 2/3 of the way through the setup, you will be given the opportunity to select the software - select the "Full Driver" set (as opposed to the Smart application).  If necessary, select the "Basic" Software.
  3. Skip / Ignore suggestion(s) that you add anything you do not want / need at the moment.  For example, you do not (at the time of installation) need an HP Account and you do not need or want to sign up for Instant Ink just because you are loading the printer software.
  4. Full driver provides access to the printer features on which other applications / software might depend.

========================================================================

Next,

In the software / application you are using to view and submit the job to the printer,

If necessary for the current job, Adjust the settings in the Print menu and in any additional settings.

Select the Source / Tray in the settings

Set the Preferences – Windows

NOTES

  • This section is not applicable to Mobile Printing.
  • NOTE:  Access to the complete Printer Preferences requires having installed the Full Driver printer software.
  • Printing Preferences are available directly from the driver.
  • Printing Envelopes?  See NOTE

Control Panel > icon view > Devices and Printers

Right-Click on your printer > Printing Preferences

  • When called from within printing software / applications, Printing Preferences might be called "Printer Properties" / "Shortcuts" / “More Settings” / “Properties” / "Printer Setup" or similar.

NOTE >> Word > Mailings > Envelopes  :: Preferences and Envelopes

Select / leave Printing Preferences Shortcut to "Everyday Printing" or something equally benign.

Example - Printing Preferences - Shortcut - Everyday Printing

I started to apply the procedures provided.

But after installing en executing Easy start software it became a complete mess.

HP Smart does not work normally anymore, and when | run HP print and Scan doctor , it detects four printers

one indicated with USB, one with 192.168.1.2 and two with fe80:4a9e: bdgg: fe59:264.

Also HP smart indicates two printers : one not connected and a second which becomes connected after a long time.

Thanks for the advice.

I used a system recovery point to reinstall the system before the new printer (HP OJ 7730) was installed.

On a second pc , connected via WiFI direct to the printer,  I deleted the OJ7730 printer.

Should I do any changes on the printer itself before to start with the installation of drivers ?

HP Recommended

Thanks for your help.  Roll back en reinstall was the right thing to do.   I don't know what went wrong in the initial attempt

During the second attempt the process was much smoothly.  Thanks

Excellent.

You are welcome.

"Wi-Fi Direct" is an ad-hoc wireless connection between the printer and the computer - no router network.  Nice, but it can get in the way when you are not expecting or wanting to use it.  Check the printer display to toggle the setting OFF.  Read about Wi-Fi Direct in the User Guide on Page 104.
