HP OfficeJet Pro 7740 Wide Format All-in-One Printer

First I had trouble with a paper jam.  I have cleared the paper jam, but the ink cartridges do not come to the middle when I open the door and the screen is still saying paper jam.

Hi @SherryFB,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It sounds like the printer's sensors might still be detecting a paper jam even though you've cleared it. Here are a few steps you can try to resolve the issue.

  • Turn off the Printer: Switch off the printer and unplug it from the power source. This will reset the printer's internal components.
  • Inspect for Jammed Paper: Open all the access doors and carefully check for any small pieces of paper that might still be stuck inside. Even tiny shreds can trigger the paper jam sensor.
  • Move Cartridges Manually: If the ink cartridges aren't moving to the center when you open the door, you may need to gently move them manually. Make sure the printer is turned off and unplugged before attempting this. Be very careful not to force anything.
  • Reset the Printer: Some printers have a reset function that can help clear errors. Refer to your printer's manual for instructions on how to perform a reset.
  • Check Sensors: Look for any sensors or optical components inside the printer that might be obstructed or dirty. Cleaning them carefully with a soft, dry cloth can sometimes resolve issues with false paper jam errors.
  • Update Firmware: Ensure your printer has the latest firmware installed. Sometimes, updating the firmware can fix bugs or glitches that cause issues like this.

Remember to always handle the printer and its components carefully to avoid causing any damage.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
