Welcome to the HP User Community.

I cannot help with MacOS software settings.

The following is general information about the printer and the paper size / type.

If your "stock" paper is "Card Stock",

The printer does not generally support many types of "card stock" media.

True Card Stock paper might exceed the maximum "card" paper weight supported in this printer.

Printer supports Index Card Paper to 200 gsm

Cards
Up to 200 g/m2 (110 lb index)
Up to 20 cards (17 mm [0.67 inch] stacked)

and

Supported cards

To avoid paper jams and other issues, make sure you are using the correct type and size of index cards or card stock when loading the input tray.
Paper type
Paper size
Index card
76.2 x 127 mm (3.0 x 5.0 inches)
Index card
102 x 152 mm (4.0 x 6.0 inches)
Index card
127 x 203 mm (5.0 x 8.0 inches)
A6 card
105 x 148.5 mm (4.13 x 5.83 inches)
A4 index card
210 x 297 mm (8.3 x 11.7 inches)
Index card letter
216 x 279 mm (8.5 x 11 inches)
Japanese postcard
100 x 148 mm (3.9 x 5.8 inches)
O**bleep**u Hagaki*
200 x 148 mm (7.8 x 5.8 inches)
*The product is compatible with plain and inkjet Hagaki from Japan Post only. It is not compatible with photo Hagaki from Japan Post.

What else?

If the settings are incorrect or found to be incompatible (supported paper size / paper type combination, for example), the job will typically fail - if the settings are OK but the printer is not aware of the paper size / type, the job might fail or the printer might jam when the unexpected paper is loaded into the rollers.

Example - Retain / Modify (Edit) / Check Paper Size & Type - Tray and Paper Management
