My P1606dn printer has suddenly developed a problem that I had not seen before.  When a new job is sent to the printer the yellow attention light begins to flash and the process hangs.  The printer had been working flawlessly for extended period of time and I changed the toner cartridge recently with no issues afterwards.  The printer mechanism seems to be working normally as I can print a test page using the button on the device.  I ran through the suggested causes; i.e., paper jam, cartridge not seated, cartridge door ajar, etc. and none applied.  Any thoughts are where I should look for the source of the problem or other suggestions.  I have noticed there may be some issues with Windows 11 and perhaps this is just another one.  For example when using the envelope feature of Word the envelope runs through the printer but there is nothing printed.  Occasionally when printed a page in Word the same thing happens; i.e., a blank page.  I have found in the latter case it is necessary to reboot the entire printer which sometimes, but not always, solves the problem.
Looking forward to any thoughts on these problems.

Many thanks

A page size mismatch can cause this issue. This occurs when you send a print job formatted for envelope but the printer believes that it has letter size laoded.

Thanks for your quick reply.

I checked the dimensions of the paper being printed and it is 8-1/2 x 11 inches as requested by Word.

I was wondering, if by chance, the sensor detecting the presence of blank paper could have become dirty or, worse, has failed.

Any thoughts?

If the printer is network connected, log into the embedded web server and make sure the paper size setting on the printer itself is correct.  If the paper feeds at all that suggests that the sensor is likely working and it is more likely a setting issue

I checked the EWS and the paper handling setting shows it is letter.  So it appears it may not be a setting issue.  Any further ideas?  I see there are both mechanical and optical sensors involved.

If test prints work, it is unlikely that there is a sensor error in the paper path. Have you confirmed that the printer driver is the correct one for your printer. Windows has a habit of bumping out correct drivers and installing one of their IPP or Class drivers which do not always work as expected.

I did the tests with clearing the printer memory and then setting up communication using the USB port.  Doing that the printer worked fine.  I then did the same but using the LAN port.  Initially everything worked but as before it was not long before the problem with the applications error returned.  So there appears to be an issue with the LAN.

Do you have any suggestions on how to troubleshoot that?  As far as tell there have been no problems with the other devices on that LAN Switch which is connected to PORT 2 on the modem.  Could it be a fault in the CAT6 cable connecting the two or perhaps something else I should investigate?
