I just bought a MFP M479fdw, used, aware that it had a paper jam issue. Honestly I thought they were just unaware and it would be a super easy fix. It is very much NOT an easy fix. I have opened and closed all the areas for a jam multiple times, there is no paper anywhere that I can find. I have tried paper cleaning (but then it keeps jamming the paper repeatedly from tray 1). I have done hard resets. I've factory reset the machine. I've tried cleaning the rollers. I have looked up a number of threads and YouTube videos but none of them actually seem to help or deal with the 13.03.01 persistent error code. Everything looks perfect that I can see! I just don't know where to go from here to get it to stop acting like it's jammed.

Update: I even took apart the fuser to check for a stray torn piece of paper since apparently that's a thing. Still nothing!

Do you get a jam error after you power ON, or printer goes to Ready and when it tries to print goes to jam error?

When it tries to print it throws the code. I was working on it for hours last night. Initially it would just throw the code when it tried to print but it never pulled any paper. After awhile (I think after I cleaned the rollers?) then it would at least grab the paper but then proceeded to "jam" but it was just sitting in that hidden spot between trays 1/2 without any bends or folds, like it just quit half way through.

I would clean paper pickup roller maybe it's worn out. Remove the paper tray and inside you will see a rubber roller, remove it, clean with warm water and soap and install back. If that helps buy a new ones and install new.

Well, you're not going to believe it, but I figured out why literally none of the troubleshooting tips or videos helped. I did take apart the rubber rollers but they were just fine. Somehow a freaking paper BUTTERFLY was lodged in there and only the metal body remained 💀 I messaged the seller and told her what I found and she and her husband died laughing. When they were first trying to unjam the thing they found paper butterfly wings and thought that was weird and their kid must have thrown it in the tray. They didn't know there was a body 😂 But problem solved! In possibly the most frustrating way.
