My HP OfficeJet Pro 6968 shows a jammer paper error that doesn't exist. I tried to fix it following the directions I found, but it did not work. Then it says I have to replace the ink, but when I tried to do it, the ink cartridge doesn't move from the right side of the printer, and I'm not able to replace it. Any ideas? Thanks

Hi @Romi11,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

I’m really sorry you’re facing this frustrating issue, with no real paper jam but a lingering error and a stuck cartridge on the HP OfficeJet Pro 6968. That helpless feeling when the ink cartridge won’t budge, even though it’s time to replace it, must be incredibly irritating. Let’s work through this together with step-by-step troubleshooting grounded in guidance and proven fixes.

Step 1: Fully Power‑Reset the Printer

A deep reset can sometimes clear internal errors and coax the cartridge back to life:

  1. Turn on the printer.
  2. While it’s on, unplug both ends of the power cord, the printer and the wall.
  3. Wait 60 seconds to drain capacitors.
  4. Plug the cord directly into a wall outlet (no surge protector).
  5. Reconnect to the printer and turn it back on.
  6. Wait for the printer to finish its startup cycle, then check if the carriage moves freely.

Step 2: Inspect and Gently Free the Carriage

  • With the printer powered off, unplug it again.
  • Open the ink access door.
  • Try to gently nudge the carriage; if it's locked to the right, you may feel resistance.
  • Use a strong flashlight to look for tiny paper scraps, plastic debris, or dried ink on the rail.
  • If something small is caught, carefully remove it. Don’t force anything; you might damage delicate parts.

Step 3: Push the Absorber Pad to Free the Carriage

HP experts and technicians often recommend manually pushing the internal ink absorber pad out of the way:

  1. With the ink access cover open (and printer off), locate the absorbent ink pad underneath the carriage.
  2. Use a blunt object or your fingers to gently push the pad back so the carriage can slide past it.
  3. Try turning the printer back on, then open the access door. Did the cartridge shift?

Step 4: Update Firmware & Final Reset

I hope this helps.

Take care and have an amazing day!
