Jamming after every page

I got the printer from a friend and it was working great. All of a sudden before every print job I hear it making loud clicks (like it is trying to grap the paper) and then either it reports a jam (tray 2) or it prints a single sheet and then jams for the next page. When I remove tray 2, there is a sheet that it obviously grabbed but failed to pull through underneath where the tray was. Trying to use tray 1 bypass tray only leads to it feeding down and getting stuck (I pull it from under tray 2). Now I cannot print at all. I looked and nothing appears broken.
