HP LaserJet Pro 400 color Printer M451dw
Microsoft Windows 11

My LaserJet Pro 400, purchased new in 2015, has been a real workhorse, but lately the paper feed in Tray 1 keeps jamming for no apparent reason. I've opened it up, and apart from minor flecks of dust, I don't see anything. What should I be looking for?

I really depends on where the jam is occurring. If the printer is failing to feed properly then likely the pickup roller is worn or dirty. The pickup roller should have fine fingerprint like ridges, if the surface is smooth, the roller would need to be replaced. Also do you get the same behavior from both Tray 2 and Tray 1(mp tray)

I think you're right about the nature of the problem. I flipped it up and looked at the roller and it does look smoothed out. I've ordered a new set of rollers on Amazon and will install them according to a Youtube video I found. Thank you!

I want to let you know that your solution was absolutely on the money! I was able to replace the pickup roller this morning, and my dear old printer is working like new. Many thanks for your expert advice!
