Bought the 3301 to replace my 9010 and my 2025.  Tried printing name badges (on heavier stock) today for the first time. No matter what I do for paper settings, no matter which tray I use the paper jams.

How does this "upgrade" waste 3 hours of my time trying to make work and still doesn't do what I need it to do? What do I do now?

How, indeed?

The printer you purchased as a "replacement" for your older OfficeJet Pro 9010 and possibly 9025 is not an upgrade as much as the Laser printer is an entirely different animal.

Laser Printers are not OfficeJet Pro printers.

Nice printer -- just very different from your older OfficeJet Pro models and also different from the "replacement" OfficeJet Pro models in the OfficeJet Pro 91xx series.

Is the laser printer better than the top-of-line OfficeJet Pro 9135e?

No idea -- the  HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP 3301-3304 3388 Printer Series   is a nice printer in its type and it is popular amongst Laser printer enthusiasts.

Like the OfficeJet Pro 9135e, this printer supports a number of nice EWS / SMTP scan features:

Digital Sending Standard FeaturesScan to Email, Scan to Network Folder, Scan to Sharepoint, Scan to USB, Scan to Computer

-- What to do? --

Well, I don't know.

I've learned a bit about your printer series by reading the documentation.

I cannot say I'm a fan of the laser printer type though I believe my hesitancy is largely due to lack familiarity.

My first suggestion is that you read, read, read the user guide.

It is packed with important information.

-- Dragon Observations --

One of the most important differences is related to the supported paper types --

Some of the same paper types are supported -- these might be named the same or differently from the types of paper with which you are familiar.

For example,

One part of the Media specifications (included later in this message)  says the printer supports Brochure / Professional paper while the paper weights section does not actually mention supporting the Brochure / Professional Paper weight (180 gsm).

Photo paper is not mentioned at all -- this is a small office printer -- it is meant to print lots of documents.  It is not a photo printer.  I might print photos, at least on Index paper (matte, 200 gsm).

Should you have access to the Embedded Web Server (EWS), you can use it to modify / reflect the paper size and type you have installed on the tray(s).

Are the EWS settings for Tray and Paper the same as the example below (taken from my OfficeJet 9135e)?

With luck, yes -- or possibly the setup is at least recognizable.

Remember, though, the paper sizes and types are not the same regardless of the EWS format (presentation).

Assuming you can find a compatible (usable) Paper and Tray setting in EWS, set that.

Next,

Follow up with setting the Paper Size / Type setting in your application or software you are using to configure your print job.

Alternate EWS format - Select newer InkJet printers and select LaserJet printers

Open your Browser

Type / enter the Printer IP address into URL / Address bar

Section Paper > Trays > click on Tray to configure

Next (as available)

Section Print > Default Print Options > Select default options / tray
